I have a few date stamped pictures to authenticate my journey! In those days a lot of digital cameras had that feature hard wired into them.
About House Painting Lessons
Welcome to HousePaintingLessons.com – a blog that helps you transform yourself into someone with effective painting skills and knowledge that serves your painting needs.
My name is Kevin Takenaka. I am a journeyman painter who started out with zero knowledge about painting houses.
I was disorganized, messy and afraid of heights (on a 6 foot step ladder! … I know…)
But then I realized something. A growing family was incentive for me to become the best painter I could be.
Who is Kevin Takenaka?
From Summer Job to Home Builder
In 1989 I started a new summer job as a painter’s helper. Little did I know that it would become a profession, a career, and a passion.
I was so intrigued with the surfaces that I painted that I just had to learn how to repair them properly before painting. This led me to renovate and eventually build new houses.
Building a home from the bottom up gave me greater insight into painting and how it relates to the other systems that make up a house.
Painting is rather unique in this way. It touches nearly every square inch of a house. Yes, I have painted foundations, floors, roofs and more!

Why House Painting Lessons?
People love colors! They have a powerful influence on how we feel. We also use colored coatings to protect surfaces that would otherwise deteriorate. Once we grasp these two concepts, we realize that painting will be around for a very long time.
House Painting Lessons exists to explain painting techniques using everyday language. Along with helpful articles, I want to provide you with images that are relatable and step by step instructions that are attainable.
